Local Hanwell Info

Hanwell W7 is situated in the western part of the capital. This lovely residential area of London is really cosy and comfortable.

The first record of W7 dates back to the middle of the 10th century. The name Hanwell has Saxon origins. Because of its crucial importance for the transport in the 18th century, to London’s outskirts, there were a lot of pubs and inns in the area, which thrived. The Duke of York, The Fox, The Duke of Wellington and Spencer Arms are some of them, which survived till present days.

Animal Centre, Brent Lodge Park and Elthorne Park are just some of the parks in Hanwell. They offer residents and visitors of the area some nice time in the greenery and fresh air and Animal Centre there is even a small zoo and children’s playground for the little ones to have fun.

Built in 1841, the St Mary’s Church is situated on the site of the mediaeval parish church. Some of the other interesting churches in W7 are St Mellitus Church and St Thomas the Apostle.

Аn  interesting event that every year takes place here, is the second largest street festival after the one in Notting Hill. It started as a charity-event in 1898.

Charlie Chaplin and Steve McQueen used to go to school exactly here in Hanwell. It was also the local community centre of the area, where Deep Purple rehearsed for their album In Rock in 1970.
