Local St John’s Wood Info
St John’s Wood is an area of North-west London. Its location more specifically is north-west end of regent’s park, close to Charing Cross and in the City of Westminster. Before this territory became possession of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, it used to belong to the Great Middlesex Forest. The early 19th century was the point when St John’s Wood started growing and developing.
Speaking of architecture, it is necessary to mention that the area escapes the terraced housing norm, a hallmark for the other districts. Instead of it, typical for this quarter is the “villa” housing, which nowadays makes St John’s Wood a desired residential place.
The area is famous for the fact that it homed the original headquarters of cricket. Today, here are still found Lord’s Cricket Ground and Middlesex County Cricket Club.
When it comes to music, the area has a lot to be proud of, as well. Here, the legendary Abbey Road album was recorded by the Beatles – in the famous Abbey Road Studios. The emblematic cover of the album, shows the band crossing the road.
In 1960s a lot of popular film and music stars used to own property in St John’s Wood and some of them, like supermodel Kate Moss, do so even today.
