Local Barnes Info

Barnes is a modern residential suburb, located along the banks of the river Thames, in the south-western part of London. In 1086, the area was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Near by, once there used to be a Saxon village.

Barnes is popular with its beautiful Terrace, which consists of old houses from the times of King George III and imposing Victorian mansions. This part of the area is really picturesque and is favourite for residents and visitors. Some of the best preserved pieces of Georgian architecture are situated here. So when it comes of architecture, the area really has its historic legacy.

Here, around Lonsdale Road, football left the “mob” period and became an organized sport. One of the founding members of the Football Association used to live here – Ebenezer Cobb Morley.barnes

The famous All You Need is Love album by the Beatles is recorded here, more specifically in the legendary Olympic studios. Not only the Beatles, but also world-wide known artists, such as Pink Floyd, David Bowe and Queen,  The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Coldplay, Ella Fitzgerald Madonna, The Rolling Stones and Jimmy Hendricks!

Speaking of jazz – even today, at Lonsdale Road can be seen the Olympic Studios equivalent in jazz music – The Bull’s Head.
