Local East Ham Info

The suburban area of East Ham is situated in eastern London and belongs to the London Borough of Newham. It is identified as one of the thirty-five major centres of Greater London.

The name of the area originates from the word “hamm” which means “a dry area of land between rivers or marshland” in Old English. That is due to the fact that East Ham is located between the rivers Lea, Roding and Thames.

The district mainly consists of traditional terraced houses. It is a beautiful area with a distinct character, a busy urbanized place with a lot of green open spaces at the same time. Central Park and Plashet Park, the east-ham-thracian-cleanersmain parks in the area, are wonderful spots for fun and relaxation with their numerous cafes and playgrounds. There are also smaller parks such as Flanders Park and Priory Park.

Another distinctive feature of East Ham is its multi-cultural character. For that reason, the area has many shops and restaurants offering food for different ethnic groups. There are also a number of churches used for different religions. One of the notable places of worship is the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. East Ham United, the local football team, has also made the area popular.
